Blood Drive Challenge for the friends of University of Michigan "versus" those of Michigan State University.
Winter Sports  --  During the Winter 2009-10 season, we will attend a Michigan Basketball game as a group and see firsthand the much improved team. We would welcome suggestions or help with arrangements and might also consider other winter sports. Please contact a board member, listed below.

Other Jaunt to Ann Arbor  --  We will attend the Men's Glee Club concert this spring, a special one at Hill Auditorium, held to honor the glee club's 150th year.
Board Meetings  --  Four meetings of the club board are held per year to form plans for upcoming events. Anyone interested in joining the board or contributing to the club in any other way is encouraged to contact any board member, listed below.

Student Event  --  Our student events are very popular and much appreciated. Click the link to our Scholarship page for the story of our most recent Student Sendoff party! In different years, we have held them in May, June, or August. We have had picnics, desserts, or hors d'oeuvres. There have been informal or more formal gatherings. Let us know of your suggestions, preferences, or willingness to help!

Getting Information Out

We try to report club news in several ways. Those whose e-mail addresses are in University and/or club files are our best-informed alumni, friends, and fans. The weekly issue of e-TrueBlue, which is disseminated by AAUM to all e-mailing members on Tuesdays usually has at least one item from our club.

We have a "listserv" set up with all currently known alumni e-mail addresses in our assigned area, which consists of Hillsdale County and western Lenawee. Club secretary Terri Addison uses the listserv to send out club news several times a year. If you receive an e-mail from UMHillsdaleClub@umich.edu, that is from our group. If you would like to be added to this e-mailing list, simply write to taddsn@umich.edu and you will be added. Of course, there is an opt-out note at the end of each message; therefore, if you get tired of hearing from us, you can end the service.

We also send out a postal mailing once or twice a year, to reach those who have no e-mail service or choose not to receive our information electronically.

Volunteer Positions Open

Board Directors (Members-at-large)  -  The club can always use new faces on the Board of Directors. Time commitment for occasional meetings is small, and fresh ideas are always welcome!

Treasurer  -  In recent times, the secretary and treasurer positions have both been filled by one person. That person has requested to have someone else take on the treasurer portion of the job so she has more time to devote to the secretary duties.

Web Master  -  As you have probably noticed, we sorely need a person with these capabilities to dress up our Web site!!! The club web master is responsible for updating the club's site on a monthly basis using CMS Made Simple, a content management system. Prior knowledge of this software is not required. Knowledge of HTML is also not required but could be helpful. CMS Made Simple works with either Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, Netscape, or Firefox. (For Mac users, Safari supports HTML but not the WYSIWYG editor.)

Events Coordinator  -  The club needs someone to organize details for events we might have, such as the above-mentioned Pep Rally when it is our turn, as well as other planned or dreamed events. We would most likely have a greater number of fun and worthwhile club activities if we had such a designated person (or persons) to coordinate them. Currently, we are having each officer be responsible for one activity per year.
Please contact one of the above-mentioned officers for more information about these positions or about our club in general.
